During the 10 year period when this expert was working for the Amsterdam Municipality Police Force, he followed 2 Marketing Courses (both a 1-year course). He found out that Marketing was a really interesting subject and was fitting him like a glove.
So after the theoretical basis, he developed himself and decided to change jobs and working area and started as an Account Manager. To learn all, you?ll have to start with the first principle in Marketing and Sales: ?learn the language of the street, know your customer and learn to sell?.
The 6-years selling experience, both in the basis and the management level, gave a very good basis. During this period he developed himself further by doing his MBA. His first training experience was this period, teaching new employees the way to sell.
He found out that he was a generalist. He was eager in helping others to find the best way in operating. So a logical next step was the business consultancy.
The first year in this line of business was covered with a variety of different consultancy assignments. His aim was still to focus on Marketing and Sales so he changed jobs and became (Managing) Consultant in a company that designed, build, and operated Marketing and Sales Organizations.
In this period he developed, conducted and supervised the main program of this company: 'Strategic Sales and Account Management' (a 4-day course).
It was not 'stand alone training'. It was more a profound change program to implement and develop a common marketing and sales methodology in the B2B environment.
His experiences in conducting a program to Marketing and Sales staff, decided him to proceed this by himself, as an entrepreneur. The distinctive competence of his one-man business named ?Hourglass? was a very flexible approach towards changing processes: ?answering the needs and requirements of changing, by designing a tailor-made workshop or training, shaped like an Hourglass?.
It is not the way of telling people how to do it; it is the practice of doing it that gives the change! In the meanwhile, acting as a Professor at the Higher School for Economics, he developed his training expertise more, by conducting Change Management.
For him, marketing is still an interesting science and a day-by-day challenge. Marketing is not only an outside-in approach; it also depends on the competencies and possible strengths inside the company and the best way to make use of it.
It reflects his strongest point: ?a permanent focus on and a high sense for cultural aspects and people within organizations; thriving for collaborative values?
